American Orthodontics Introduces New Hook Products
Sheboygan, Wisconsin — American Orthodontics is pleased to introduce its new Utility Traction Hook, or UT Hook, designed as a one-piece product with a “T” shaped end to accommodate elastics from multiple directions. The term “Utility” refers to the versatility and ability to perform several functions. The UT Hook can be used for partially erupted teeth, blocked out teeth, rotated molars, cross elastics, or elastics with aligners, among other uses.
The “Traction” term is a reference to the UT Hook maintaining its position despite being exposed to a pulling strain. Unlike a two piece brazed hook, AO’s UT Hook is still malleable for specific hook placement, but much more robust under similar loading conditions.
AO is introducing the Universal Crimpable Hook, designed for 18x25 and 21x25 archwires. The Universal Crimpable Hook can be used with elastics, chain, coil springs, and the 3mm length is perfect for surgical cases. The interior is ribbed with bi-directional grips for increased grip strength on the archwire. The mushroom top on the Universal Crimpable Hook allows for use as a surgical hook, or an arch hook.
The Universal Crimpable Hook is crimped onto the arch wire in situations where the bracket may not have a hook, or a hook is needed in another location to attach elastics, chain, coil springs or Temporary Anchorage Devices. They will be used for Class I space closure, Class II, and Class III malocclusions and can also be used in surgery cases where ligature wire will be laced to keep the mandible closed.
